Spray-Fountain Patterns

Before adding a fountain, consider the overall shape of your pond.  A fountain will typically look best in the middle with a square or circular pond.

This beautiful lighted fountain birdbath with its trickling water attracts neighborhood birds to gather and bathe.  Its bell spout and saft light are a tranquil addition to your backyard and its durable resin material holds up to the elements.  Notice the shape of the various elements or envision shrubs or any other large features you may wish to add.  The shape of nearby p
lants or garden furniture can be complimented by choosing fountains that have a vertical or  rounded spray shapes.

Is your pond in a windy area?  If so, wind strength is also a factor that will affect the style of fountain that will work best in your pond.  If you have a windy site, some fountains, such as those that create a fine spray of droplets, or for example, a bell fountain shown at right,  that produces a thinicon film of water may not be suitable as their pattern or symmetry will often be disturbed.  A geyser style fountain that shoots up a heavy column of water will work best in this situation.

Floating or marginal plants need also to be considered as most water garden plants such as water lilies and many other pond flowering plants can't tolerate splashing or moving water.  If you have these plants in your pond and wish to add a fountain, the plants will need to be kept to the edge of the pond.  A fountain with a low water column or the bell pattern fountain shown at right, will disturb the surface less than other designs would.  This bell fountain kit also has a pump.  Its exotic water display is a feast for the senses and the beautiful water garden focal point is a conversation piece for your guests.  In addition, the fountain spray aerates the water which is beneficial to all pond fish.    If your fish are more of a concern to you than plants then choose a splashier fountain that will provide more aeration to your pond.

The size of your pond will also limit the size of your fountain.  If your pond is in a totally sheltered windless area, a fountain jet could be as high as the pond is wide.  However, this tends to be a rare condition.  Most likely, you will need to make some adjustments to the height of your fountain to no more than half the width or diameter of your pond to avoid drenching the area around it such as benches, light fixtures, decks or patios.  In addition, if the spray is too large for the size of the pond, excess water evaporation will lower its level considerably.  The splash dance pond fountain system shown at  left is a unique water fountain system which interacts with the sound of music.  Transform your pond or water garden into a dancing water feature.  This is a must have water fountain system for parties, barbeques, or just for a relaxing evening in your outdoor living space.  Below are some of the various types of spray-fountain patterns available for your pond.
